Youth Ambassador Dina Alami on the role of youth at FN Peace Talks in Geneva

Dina Alami is one of the young Ambassadors of Fryshuset. Dina is a political scientist, and her passion for peace and security has grown out of personal experiences of growing up in a marginalized area of suburban Stockholm and witnessing the results of deadly violence and its effects on herself and her surrounding community. Now, she works to create meetings between youth and politicians and to build bridges between groups in Sweden that do not have natural points of encounter.

Based on her personal background, growing up in a marginalized area of suburban Stockholm and witnessing the deadly violence in her surrounding community, Dina Alami started with her beloved friend, Oliver, the victim of gun violence in Sweden. She emphasized the importance of trust by saying: “We, who are affected by the violence, must be included in creating sustainable solutions. And that even involves the boys with the guns. Their perspective needs to be included as well, so people will understand even better what made them take a path that could only lead to trauma, hurt and loss.”
