At the end of January 2026, Fryshuset had the pleasure of welcoming our partners from Lithuania and Latvia as part of the three-country exchange project “Networking and Training Opportunities for More Humane Prisons”. The project focuses on trauma-informed care and mediative communication within prisons and aims to enhance rehabilitative practices for incarcerated youth.

During the first phase of the program, in September 2025, representatives from Fryshuset traveled to Latvia to learn about their prison and probation systems. Over three days, the group visited Liepaja Prison, where they met correctional staff and gained insight into reintegration work with inmates, as well as a probation office focusing on children and young adults.

This year, as part of the second phase of the exchange, representatives from the Lithuanian NGO Prirašytos rankos (Inscribed Hands), LCC International University, and the Latvian association Radi Vidi Pats traveled to Sweden.

During the visit, our guests met with Fryshuset staff who work with incarcerated youth in prisons and detention centers. They participated in exchange activities including workshops, presentations, and discussions on Sweden’s approach to rehabilitation and social reintegration. The group also attended a session at the conference “Youth, Violence, and the Way Back,” held at Fryshuset on January 27, and visited Riksförbundet Frivilliga Samhällsarbetare (RFS) and the Swedish Prison and Probation Service (Kriminalvården).

Looking ahead, the third phase of the #NBNGOprogram will take place in Lithuania later in 2026, where partners will continue the exchange by exploring the Lithuanian correctional system and rehabilitation practices.
