Solidarity Spark – Empowering Youth Changemakers
Many young people across Europe are unaware of the opportunities offered by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) or feel excluded from them. This project creates an accessible, youth-friendly online course that introduces the ESC, and provides step-by-step guidance on applying for funding.
Project Summary
Project period: January 2025 – December 2026
Partners: Rauhankasvatusinstituutin
Funded by: Erasmus+ KA2
This project aims to strengthen solidarity and inclusiveness by empowering young people to become active citizens. It focuses on making the opportunities provided by the European Solidarity Corps and the values of the European Union more visible and accessible to youth.
Through collaboration between Finland and Sweden, young people will co-create inclusive materials and tools that help others better understand and access EU opportunities. This project also inspires youth to turn their passions into action and become confident change-makers in their communities by creating their own Solidarity Projects.
Each project focuses on activities that address real community needs, with guidance, resources, and EU funding provided throughout the process.
Context and Challenges
While the European Solidarity Corps provides funding and opportunities for youth initiatives, many young people — especially those with limited access to information or resources — remain unaware of these possibilities.
The project addresses several key challenges:
- Low awareness of EU opportunities among young people;
- Barriers to participation in solidarity projects;
- Lack of inclusive materials tailored to diverse youth needs;
- Need for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
By focusing on inclusivity and co-creation, the project ensures that young people are not passive participants but active agents of change.
Activities
The project focuses on knowledge exchange between young people from Finland and Sweden, inspiring others to create their own solidarity projects and supporting them in turning their ideas into action.
Impact
The project empowers young people and provides practical tools to support their initiatives. It offers a step-by-step guide on how to develop ideas and apply for EU funding.
Through active participation, young people aged 18–30 gain valuable experience, build confidence, and strengthen their role as decision-makers in their communities. Participants from Sweden, together with their peers from Finland, co-create materials and projects based on real youth needs.
