European Solidarity Corps

What is the European Solidarity Corps (ESC)?

The ESC is the an European Union initiative which creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects in their own country or abroad that benefit communities and people around Europe. Projects can last from two to twelve months. They will usually be located within the European Union Member States.

Who can join the ESC?

All European citizens aged between 18 and 30 can participate in the European Solidarity Corps. You can register for the European Solidarity Corps when you are 17 years old, but you cannot start a project until you are over 18. Participants must be legally resident in the EU Member States or the following Partner Countries: former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Russian Federation.

How does it work?

The European Solidarity Corps funding is provided in the form of grants to organisations through call for proposals. Young people wishing to engage in such activities need to register in the European Solidarity Corps portal. The portal offers a place for those young people and organisations, holding a grant, to implement activities and to find each other. You can apply at Fryshuset here >>

What can you do?

The European Solidarity Corps programme creates opportunities for young people to engage in solidarity activities at Fryshuset. During your stay, you can participate in a variety of social, educational, cultural, and entrepreneurial projects. Through this opportunity, we aim to:

  1. Increase knowledge about Fryshuset’s inclusive youth work.
  2. Promote and support youth entrepreneurship.
  3. Raise awareness about volunteering opportunities at national and international levels.
  4. Foster mutual understanding among young people from different countries through intercultural dialogue.
  5. Contribute to the development of quality support systems for youth activities and mobility.
  6. Promote cooperation in the field of youth mobility.
  7. Provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and competencies.

What do you need to know more?

Accomodation, food and transport arrangements
We’ll provide the following: – accommodation, meals and local transportation; – the allowance;

Training during activity
We’ll provide opportunities for the following trainings of volunteers during their stay: (1) introduction for new volunteers on Fryshuset history, organisation and work incl. IT, tools and need to know (2) Fryshusets youth leadership training as a support to create and implement their own projects (3) possibility to take part in course such as Swedish language courses (4) for Swedish participants we also provide a workshop on unemployment insurance (5) Fryshuset also ensures that the volunteer receive full ESC training and evaluation cycle;

Participant profile
We welcome volunteers who are motivated to work with youth. We are looking for volunteers who can relate to one or more of the below mentioned: (1) Interest in sports and cultural activities, entrepreneurship, LGBTQ, gender equality, human rights, e.g. (2) Self-motivated and have a mature and professional outlook on volunteering work (3) Basic IT skills and proficient in Microsoft programmes for voluntary support roles e.g. administration (4) Basic to good written and verbal communication skills in english (5) Strong digital communicator (in english) (6) High level of organisation.
